DROWNING RUTH by Christina Schwarz

DROWNING RUTH by Christina Schwarz, (c) 2001. This WWI era psychological thriller starts out in 1919 when a young mother named Mathilda Neumann drowns beneath the ice of a rural Wisconsin lake. Her death dramatically changes the lives of her daughter Ruth, her husband Carl who was away at war, and her sister older Amanda. Ruth grew up a little wild compared to the actions of her classmates. I swear I read this book a long time ago actually, but that didn’t stop me from reading it again. If you want to find out what REALLY happened to Mathilda you’ll have to read the book yourself!

ONE BREATH AWAY by Heather Gudenkauf

ONE BREATH AWAY by Heather Gudenkauf (c) 2012. This suspense novel takes place in a small Iowa town where a lone gunman has taken over a small school that house grades  K-12. Here you’ll meet Meg Barret a relatively new town sheriff. Then you’ll meet some of the key players in this little drama as they scramble to meet his demands and figure out exactly who he is and to finally stop him. I don’t want to give the ending away as you know.

SWORN TO SILENCE by Linda Castillo

SWORN TO SILENCE by Linda Castillo, 2009. By the author of PRAY FOR SILENCE. People Magazine says “Balancing chilling suspense and a nuanced portrait of the English-Amish divide… Sworn to Silence is the opening salvo in what promises to be a gripping series.”  Now that being said I have to find the other books in the series. So far it’s a good book and would make a great movie. IN fact I just noticed a similar movie on Dish network, starring Neve Campbell. I hope this isn’t the same movie. Oh well, I’m reading the book anyway. It seems that the police chief is a woman who survived an attack by a serial killer ay age 14, and she managed to survive AND kill the man who tried to torture and murder her!

NOTE: It’s proven to be a good book. I plan to read more if they come my way.

COLD EARTH by Sarah Moss

COLD EARTH by Sarah Moss. This is an “Advanced Galley- Not for Sale copy. No Copyright date. A critic named Jane Smiley wrote on the cover: “Moss is such a master at evoking suspense… that readers will be tempted to turn to the end of the book to relieve anxieties. Try to control yourself.” Well I NEVER skip over text to the ending unless I’m bored with the book and curious about what happened before I toss it in the library donation pile. This story is about six archaeologists from the United States, England and Scotland who assembles at the beginning of the Arctic summer to unearth traces of the lost Viking settlements in Greenland. Due to an epidemic and communication problems they are all stuck in Greenland over the winter season. All ill equipped to survive there in the harsh climate. Nina, Ruth, Catriona, Jim, Ben and Yianni knowing they may never live to see their loved ones write final love letters to them. Doesn’t that sound interesting?

NOTE: Well some scary, other worldly things have been going on…. But I ain’t tellin’ ya what….

NOTE: I didn’t enjoy this book like I thought I would.

AT ANY COST by Lauren Nichols

AT ANY COST by Lauren Nichols, 2012. This is a LOVE INSPIRED SUSPENSE large print book.  Well Love Inspired is from a Christian Publisher you know, but the story sounds interesting since I don’t usually read suspense books.

Jenna Harper’s ex, tried to murder her after she broke up with him, and although she survived she’s hiding out to avoid being attacked again. Now she’s taking no chances getting caught. no unnecessary risks, no credit cards and defiantly no men. But Jenna is attacked to Beau Travis, the rugged carpenter who’s working on renovating her B & B. (Although I wonder how she can advertise for a B & B without getting her photo in the paper on on line somewhere).

NOTE: Well I’m going to give this book a try, although I’m going to end up going back to the library tomorrow since I already read the other book I took out.
