SECOND GLANCE by Jodi Picoult

SECOND GLANCE by Jodi Picoult, (c) 2003. I don’t often read Jodi Picoult books which are usually about damaged children. I read my first one and didn’t mind it although it opened my eyes to child abuse. I just couldn’t take a whole slew of them, you know? So I did try reading one about an autistic boy accused of murder and even that one I skipped a lot of pages to get to the end. Then a few weeks ago my sister brought a few books to dad’s to share with us other sisters, we do a book exchange quite often. This book sounds much different then her others.. It’s about Ghosts and other paranormal activities. Here’s the blurb on the back cover:

“A developer has slated and ancient Abenaki Indian burial ground for a strip mall, and now strange happenings have the inhabitants of tiny Comtosook, Vermont, talking of supernatural forces at work. Ross Wakeman is a ghost hunter who’s never seen a ghost- all he wants is something to end the pain of losing his fiancee, Aimee, in a car accident. He’s tried suicide -many times. Now, Ross lives only for a way to connect to Aimee from beyond. Searching the site for paranormal signs, Ross meets the mysterious Lia, who sparks him to life for in the first time in years. But the discoveries that await him are more amazing than anything in this world- or the next. Expertly entwining a powerful drama of the hearts redemption and the disturbing history of eugenics, Jodi Picoult “proves there’s little she can’t do.”

I’m sorry I didn’t say all that in my own words! I feel like a big faker as a book reviewer.

IF I STAY by Gayle Forman

IF I STAY by Gayle Forman, (c) 2010. This book reminds me the story LOVELY BONES. I watched that movie and I read the book. The movie was down right depressing watching the spirit of the girl as she visited her family and her murderer. Then her bones are never recovered from that trunk in the sink hole. How depressing can a story get. Even though the murderer get his in the end it was still sad. Now IF I STAY, is quite similar except the 17 year old girl Mia is in a coma, and her spirit watches everything going on. Seeing her parents dead bodies and her own damaged body on the side of the road. Meanwhile she and her younger brother are alive. So I guess her spirit/soul gets to decide if she goes with her parents or stays on earth with her brother. Although I thought we didn’t get a choice, that the creator chooses? Anyway I will continue to read this book.

HEAVEN IS FOR REAL by Todd Burpo and Lynn Vincent

HEAVEN IS FOR REAL by Todd Burpo and Lynn Vincent, 2010. I’ve always wanted to read this book since I believe in life after death, reincarnation and past lives. It’s the story of a little boy who dies and goes to heaven where he sits on Jesus lap and is sung to by Angels as his spirit leaves his body and he visits his parents in the waiting room. Does this boy believe in Jesus because he was taught to in Sunday School? I don’t know, I haven’t read that far yet, I’m nearly finished reading the Epilogue. I do believe that no matter what religion we believe in there are some kind of beings that meet us on the other side. Including our loved ones who passed over. They are all a higher power. Call The Creator whatever name you choose. God/Buddha/Allah.. whatever that is what will meet you on the other side. Although some people have NDE’s and go to “Hell” or so they say?? I don’t know what to think of that. I like to think there is no real Hell. What kind of Creator would send a perfectly good and redeemable soul there forever? I can see sending one there as a place to sort through their lives, like a shrinks office, but not to stay there forever, what a waste!

NOTE: I’m sorry you might not enjoy reading about my beliefs if you are Atheist, but I feel a need to express myself anyway.

NOTE: According to this book the things that boy saw in Heaven were not all good. I mean he said there are TWO swords in heaven the angels use to keep Satan out for one thing, and the other was some war that would destroy the earth and only saved souls would join God, Jesus and the Angels in heaven. (Anyway, I’m not sure what I think about all that yet, but I’m perfectly willing to read and learn about any and all things).

THE KEY, A True Encounter by Whitley Strieber

THE KEY, A True Encounter by Whitley Strieber, 2011.

I bought this reprint at the flea market yesterday along with 3 Trade Paperbacks. I have a burning quest to have my questions answered which is why I delve into the “Unexplained” and unsolved mysteries of life. If you don’t believe in the mystical, spiritual and far out stuff you might not like this book. I on the other hand find it interesting.

It’s hard for me to give a summary Here’s some of the book blurb:

“At two thirty in the morning of June 6, 1998, Whitley Strieber was awakened by somebody knocking on his hotel room door. A man came in, and everything he said was life-altering.

This is the unsettling and ultimately enlightening narrative of what happened that night. Strieber was never really sure who this uncanny visitor was- a “Master of Wisdom”? A figure from a different realm of consciousness? A preternaturally intelligent being? He decided to cal him “The Master f the Key”.

The one thing of which Strieber was certain is that both the man and the encounter were real.

The main concern of the Master of the Key is to save us from self-imprisonment. “Mankind is trapped,” the stranger tells Strieber, and “I want to help you spring the trap.” In a sweeping exchange between Strieber and the stranger– which takes the form of a classical student-teacher dialog in pursuit of inner understanding- the unknown guest provides a lesson inhuman potential, esoteric psychology, and man’s fate. He illuminates why man has been caught in a cycle of repeat violence and self-destruction–and and the slender, but very real, possibility of release.”

This book is on par with major contemporary metaphysical traditions, such as A COURSE IN MIRACLES, and the teachings of Edgar Cayce, D. T. Suzuki and Carl Jung.

NOTE: I’ll have to tell you more about it later.

NOTE: I understand this book may make some folks uncomfortable, but my whole being, my reason for livingĀ  is about being REAL and not lying to myself or you. About waking up to the truth.

BEE SEASON by Myla Goldberg

BEE SEASON by Myla Goldberg (2000), is a novel about a little 9 year old Jewish girl named Eliza who becomes the apple of her father Saul’s eye after she is the top winner of her school districts spelling bees. There after her father transfers his attention from her older brother Aaron and lavishes his attention on Eliza, leaving Aaron to go on his spiritual quest alone. Miriam, Eliza’s mom has some sort of secret life which I look forward to reading about.. This is a Jewish coming of age story, and I’m really enjoying the book.

NOTE: As you know this book was made into a movie with Richard Gere playing the father Saul. I would love to watch it myself someday.
NOTE: Well.. it seems the mother is a closet shoplifter from way back! It IS a good book and I’m glad I’m reading it before I watch the movie!

NOTE: I’m nearly finished with the book.. The whole family is lost to themselves and each other.. The mother in a mental hospital, the son Aaron joined the Hare Krishna’s, the daughter is into Jewish Letter mysticism that started with the spelling bee practice with her father. It really was a weird ending, not what I expected at all! I REALLY want to see what they did with the movie! The surprise ending I will not reveal!

POWER WORDS: Igniting Your Life with Lightning Force by Sharon Anne Klingler

POWER WORDS by Sharon Anne Klingler caught my eye in the NEW AGE book section at Barnes & Nobles tonight so I bought it. I almost bought a CHAKRA clearing book but changed my mind. I fully understand the power and energy of words now and I wanted to read up on the subject. I’ll let you know what I learn,.

Power words hold positive energy you can even feel it when you pronounce them. “when we say words, we invoke the energy of those words.” (Book excerpt).
Here are a few POWER WORDS:
HILARIUS! (This word actually brings up my energy level),

The book ANGEL WORDS by Doreen Virtue tells much the same thing as POWER WORDS but includes graphs to prove the point.
