NIGHT ROAD by Kristin Hannah

NIGHT ROAD by Kristin Hannah (c) 2011.  I guess I love coming of age novels. here’s another one of Kristin Hannah’s/ Her books are usually a good read and this one was also. This is the story of fraternal twins Mia and Zach and their best friend Lexi Baill a foster child who moves into their town with her great Aunt Emma in a trailer park. There’s a little tragedy involved that changes all their lives for the worst, but they all see it though.. it may take a while though. I highly recommend this one.

SPITE FENCES by Trudy Kirsher

SPITE FENCES by Trudy Kirsher, (c) 1994. This old paperback I chose coincidentally involves racism form back in 1960. It’s an interesting coming of age novel about a 13 year old girl who doesn’t exactly get along with her mother. Magnolia (Maggie) Pugh is an open minded young woman who feels no hatred for the “colored” folk in Kinship, Georgia. This is her story.

DRIFTWOOD SUMMER by Patti Callahan Henry

DRIFTWOOD SUMMER by Patti Callahan Henry, (c) 2009. I just started this novel which takes place in mainly in Palmetto Beach, Georgia. A tale of three sisters Riley a single mom, Maisy who moved to California and fun loving Adalee who’s still attending college are called home when their mother falls down the stairs and breaks a few bones. They were supposed to come home celebrate their mother’s birthday and try to save the family bookstore. Mack Logan also returns to town that June. He was Riley’s best friend and Maisy’s teenage crush 13 years ago, but he chooses Maisy over Riley and the two sisters are driven apart. The sisters don’t get along for other reasons also and I don’t want to give the ending away.

THE EDUCATION OF DIXIE DUPREE by Donna Everhart

THE EDUCATION OF DIXIE DUPREE by Donna Everhart, (c) 2016. This was such a good book, but if you find descriptions of child abuse disturbing please don’t read it. This is a coming of age story and it was a good one. It takes place in the year 1971 in Alabama and New Hampshire. Dixie is a little liar, everyone knows she lies whenever she gets the chance. Her mom and dad don’t get along and when something tragic happens and Uncle Ray comes to stay for a while Dixie’s life is turned upside down in more ways than one. Folks don’t believe her when she finally tells the truth. There’s a few  twists and turns in this book and I had a hard time putting it down.

CLOSE TO THE BROKEN HEARTED by Michael Hiebert

CLOSE TO THE BROKEN HEARTED by Michael Hiebert, (c) 2014.  This is Sylvie’s story, and she grew up in Alabama where she lived through the tragic murder of her little brother as he sat on their father’s lap. Of course Sylvie is a screwed up mess after that but she keeps calling the local police over and over again insisting that someone is trespassing on her property and one time even comes into the house when she’s not home. This was a real good book, don’t pass it up. A little bit psychological thriller, a little bit mystery..

WILD AT HEART by Patricia Gaffney

WILD AT HEART by Patricia Gaffney, (c) 2002. This is a delightful book about a young widow named Sidney and who returns home from a tour of Europe to meet up with the “Wild Ma” The “Lost Man” her father and his college are studying. Slowly as he is being taught to be a civilized man he falls in love with Sidney and she with him. It’s a very nice story, I recommend reading it!
