I’m a First Time Book Manuscript Reader! (Is the the right term?)

I am very honored to say that I am test reading an early draft of a wonderful new book by Mona Gustafson Affinito called MY FATHER’S HOUSE. I’ve read the first 27 pages and I’ve throughly enjoyed the story so far! The story starts out in Tursas, Sweden, by the Baltic Sea, describing the life of a 1907 farm family whose adult children have made their way one by one to the shores of America in hopes of improving the quality of their lives. The last child to immigrate is the main character Carl Johan Artur Gustafson who is on his way to Solvesborg to earn his passage to America. It’s interesting to read about life in turn of the century Sweden where the surname tradition is quite unlike ours, and the life of a peasant was much simpler and reassuring.

I truly enjoy Mona Gustafson Affinito’s writing style, which I would describe it as “Easy Reading”, meaning it flows well into my mind. It’s a very heartwarming story and I look forward to reading more chapters in the future. I’ve always enjoyed historical novels and immigrant stories are a favorite of mine! Mona Guatafson Affinito has also written another book titled FIGS & POMEGRANATES & SPECIAL CHEESES which also got wonderful reviews. Here is a link to her website and the book which I look forward to reading someday, as I’m sure to like it just as much as MY FATHER’S HOUSE: http://monagustafsonaffinito.com/2014/07/17/figs-and-pomegranates-and-special-cheeses/FIgsPomegranatesSpecialCheese72
